Monika Niederhuber has been working at ETH Zurich since 2002. She currently leads the GIS team, which provides GIS courses for environmental science students, and maintains and develops WebGIS services.
She was born in Augsburg (Germany) in 1969. Between 1990 and 1997, she studied Geography at the University of Eichstätt (Germany) with the main subject of physical geography / geo-ecology and the subsidiary subjects of business administration, journalism (up to the interim diploma) and geo-scientific remote sensing. During her studies, she gained practical experiences in remote sensing and GIS by working at the German Aerospace Research Establishment (DLR Oberpfaffenhofen) and through different internships in Canada.
After her studies, she worked as a scientific assistant in different national, European and ESA projects at an environmental engineering office, two remote sensing agencies, and the Joint Research Center of the European Commission in Ispa (Italy).
