Watch ETH Professors Dr. Verena Griess and Erich Fischer in the [Y]our2040 opening plenary

The video is now available!

Verena and Erich painting the picture of current climate change realities, asking: What does a 2.9°C warmer Switzerland look and feel like?

Erich highlighted how rising temperatures are straining water systems and destabilizing landscapes. Verena offered forests as a lens for adaptation, noting that while ecosystems naturally evolve, the pace of change has opportunities for forest stewardship – relocating and protecting resilient species in higher altitudes.

Together, the speakers called for a mindset shift. This isn’t about returning to what was but about stewarding what could be. “Being here means being part of the change,” says Verena. “That’s where hope lives."
