Dr. Jasper Fuchs receives Speidel Award for his PhD dissertation
We congratulate Dr. Jasper Fuchs on receiving the Gerhard Speidel Award 2024 for outstanding scientific achievements in forest economics and social sciences!

FORM Postdoc Dr. Jasper Fuchs received today the Gerhard Speidel Award 2024 for his PhD dissertation on the economic potentials and limitations of tree-species diversification as an adaptation strategy to climate change and extreme weather events.
His research explores whether tree-species diversity buffers the economic consequences of climate change and extreme weather events for forest enterprises. Using a novel combination of econometric analyses and simulation-optimization approaches, the studies led to the following conclusions:
💡 Yes, there are synergies between economic and ecological motivations for establishing diverse forest stands – especially for risk-averse decision-makers.
💡Extreme weather events are likely to substantially increase the economic investment risks.
💡These risks likely limit or even outweigh the monetary advantages of tree-species diversification.
